General Description

Here is a piece of history from 1959 very relectantly offered for sale by vendors who have maintained her is great shape for the last 28 years. Windrose was launched for her first owner and then raced very successfully by Ted Hood in the early 60 s. She has a long and illustrious career as a racer and then a successful transition to a cruising yacht that has voyaged around the Pacific since the late 70 s.

This yacht has only recently been relaunched following repair work below the waterline. She is now in perfect condition and will be ready to cruise for many years to come with minimal upkeep. As an attractive alternative a buyer might consider a complete renovation and return to as new condition. The high level of maintenance that this yacht has enjoyed certainly makes that option a relatively easy one.

Built of mahogany on oak frames she is incredibly strong being double planked above the turn of the bilge and with the classic hourglass hull shape. Ketch rigged for ease of sail handling gives loads of storage space in huge cockpit lockers and lazarette. The Mercedes diesel has been completely rebuilt in the late 90 s and is in excellent running order.

The interior layout is reminiscent of the 60 s with a very roomy V-berth forward and a large saloon with gimballed table and plenty of good handholds for serious sailing. Gally is to port and features huge fridge and freezer space, good work spaces and stowage for kitchen gear. There is even a microwave as a concession to the 21st century. All fittings are top quality and most are original giving her a timeless feel and a warmth that you do not find on any modern yachts no matter who builds them.
