General Description

One of the rarer ketch rigged versions of the long keeled Elizabethan 31, with centre-cockpit and much greater headroom than the aft-cockpit sloop versions. A very solidly built offshore yacht, maintained to a very high standard.
The Elizabethan 31 was introduced in 1968, as a long-keeled family cruiser. She was the first commercial design by David Thomas, who later went on to design the Sigma and several Hunters. Around 40 sloop rigged Elizabethan 31s were built by Peter Webster Ltd., though after the company's closure in 1976 the moulds were used to produce additional hulls, mostly home completed.

In 1970 a ketch-rigged version was built, with centre cockpit and a higher deck moulding, giving much greater headroom in the saloon, as well as a separate two-berth aft cabin. The long-keel hull is exactly the same as the sloops, with 50% ballast ratio. Elizabethan 31s are well regarded as long-distance cruisers with several having made notable ocean passages. This yacht is one of these rare ketch-rigged versions (only four were built), and is generally in very good condition. She was epoxied as a preventative measure in 1999.
The Elizabethan 31 has a classic long keel hull, with moderate draught. This example has legs to allow her to dry out upright.
On deck she has a ketch rig with triatic stay, with gold anodised spars, and standing rigging in stainless, with Norseman terminals. She has Rotostay roller furling for the genoa, and a manual anchor windlass. The cockpit is deep, and has wheel steering. The Nanni diesel is installed under the cockpit sole, with good access via removable panels. All exterior varnishwork is in excellent condition.
