General Description

The Cal 40 is a popular design by Bill Lapworth that has a legacy of being a great racer and an adaptable cruiser.
The Cal 40 is in her element in heavy air. Her long waterline and flat bilges help her get up and go on reaches and runs, with good surfing capabilities in medium to heavy air. She will sail well into the wind on her rail and a new dodger and full cock pit enclosure will keep the very usable cock pit spray free. There is an option to steer this 40 is by tiller or wheel , the obvious advantage being steering redundancy.

The Cal 40 has a terrific interior design. The layout is very traditional with a forward V berth forward separated from the main cabin / saloon by an enclosed head and hanging lockers. Pilot berths, extendable settees and drop down saloon tables provide additional accommodation that add to a total of 7 berths . It is not very private but none the less the berthing is there for regattas and when friends join in on the cruising passages.

The 40 hp Perkins has been rebuilt in 2005 and is in excellent and very clean condition and is easily accessible under the companionway steps.

The galley is very functional, with all amenities necessary for extended periods at sea. A new 12 volt refrigeration system would be a great addition to the large ice chest. This Cal 40 is fitted with modern electronics ,autopilot ,VHF ,SSB, GPS, inverter, solar panels, wind generator and Radar that will see all navigation and charging needs catered for.

The sail wardrobe includes 2 spinnakers, 3 headsails and 1 main.
