General Description

A recent topic of conversation by yacht designers is that sailing is interrupted by the necessity to add unnecessary inventory to a vessel that complicates the vessel and hinders the reason for why we go sailing.
Mike Allan from the Boatshop Philippines was given the task of dually designing and building a fast catamaran for the tropics that is simple and non complicated in all reguard. The result is the Hughes Custom 49 catamaran that breaks the normal convention of thought for cruising cats.

The abundance of forward deck space is amazing and the 9 meter beam gives great area and adds stability. Optimum bridge deck clearance and the composite construction assure a minimum of 8 knots every where. When there is no wind twin 50HP Yanmars are more than adequate to give good boat speed. The twin daggerboards are 14 feet long made of vacuum laminated carbon fiber skins over a light wood core.

The interior is a high quality easily cleaned composite commercial finish. The cock pit is actually the massive interior saloon that opens fully with large hinged windows. This boat was designed for natural ventilation. Massive storage is available on this vessel so she would suit any application. Accommodation for 7 and a living area will definitely see the family with plenty of room to move.

The elevated helm position gives great vision of the whole vessel an the rotation wing mast give her excellent upwind performance.

This fast cruising catamaran presents extremely well and is priced well below the base boat value of slower productions catamarans of a similar size.
