General Description

*** BRYSTAR MARINE IS THE WORLDWIDE CENTRAL AGENT FOR THE BLOHM & VOSS. *** GALLERY OF PICTURES, DECK PLANS, AND MARITIME REFERENCE CAN ALL BE FOUND AT WWW.BRYSTARMARINE.COM *** I have personally toured the vessel on three different occasions and I have been in constant contact with the engineer that has been living aboard the vessel for the past 7 months. He has been a marine engineer for 40 years starting out with his apprenticeship on the Queen Elizabeth II. These are my notes on the vessel. The vessel is in need of a total refit. Preliminary cost estimates range from $1.5 USD to 5 mil USD depending on extent of work and luxury desired. The hull is absolutely solid but will need to be sandblasted and painted. The shipyard where it is located gave an estimate of up to $350K. We have verbal estimates as low as $150K from Shipyards in Mexico. While in dry dock being painted, the Overboard Discharge Valves (both intake and output) need to be checked. He is not sure about the engines because he has never been able to start them due to no fuel being delivered to him by the present owner. None of the motors have been tested either since the ship has not been run. He said it needs plumbing work completed and the wheelhouse system updated. The wheelhouse was vandalized awhile back but needed a new system anyway due to its dated nature. The galley is actually working but is so outdated it should probably be totally redone. The batteries for the engines are either missing or so corroded that they need to be replaced. The engineer suggests that instead of doing that an Airstart System be installed. It has had major work done to it by the previous owner and while the engineer has been there including a new A/C system ($250K) and refrigeration ($400K). The steering has been refurbished so that the rudders and rudder posts are in perfect condition with no leaks. The wiring needs some minor repair (ie: faceplates, lightswitches, etc.) after wringout but is perfect with no corrosion or electrolysis. In fact the Coast Guard has said it is overwired. The hydraulic steering is perfect. The aft windlass runs beautifully on 40 tons and has both anchors and all chains. There are three sanitary systems aboard which are all operational. The ship has 1 ft. rib spacement and full iceclass status. It is grounded for both AC & DC. It is wired for a full telephone system. It has both fully functional 100KW and 250KW generators. There is absolutely no internal rust anywhere. The engineer said he is available to speak to anyone that wishes more specifics. I can have him call you upon request. It will cost an estimated 5 million to make the vessel mechanically and cosmetically pristine. The engineer is alsp willing to stay on board and supervise the renovations. His cost is approximately $300/day + expenses, but will consider offers. The engineers contact info is available upon request. To run the ship, a full crew would be comprised of about 18 -20 crewmen. Depending on where you hire them from, the crew salary will cost approximately $15 -20K a month (this is for US non- union crew). The approximate sizes of the rooms are: Main Ballroom 55'x35' Dining Room 40'x 35' Salon I - 30' x 35' Salon II 20' x 35' Largest Cabin 21' x 12' Smallest Cabin 9 x7 Pool - size of a large hot tub All Cabins are self-contained with bath and toilet. There were plans to convert the bulkheads into 30 luxury suites. It is possible without hurting the intergrity of the ship. The vessel holds 300,000 gallons of fresh water and 185,000 gallons of fuel (Marine Diesel II). Depending on where you buy it, it will cost you about $1.29 - 2.00 per gallon. However, that amount will get you around the world twice. The insurance will cost approximately $100-150K a year, depending on the use and owner and if you put the replacement value at $20 million, which Blohm & Voss verbally estimates. However, the present owner did not have a marine survey done. The most current one was done 8 years ago and much time, but many improvements, have been done since then. The engineer said he could do an In Water Survey but would need an Ultrasound Meter which costs about $2000. A professional survey would cost approx $20 - 30 per foot + haul out charges. The vessel can be left in International Waters indefinitely for storage but you will need a vessel to go back and forth on. To have it docked will cost approximately $5k - 20K a month in the US. It might possible to obtain municipal rebates in under developed areas. One of the biggest advantages to this vessel is that it is not a registered ship but is registered as a private yacht. This gives two advantages: 1) Registration each year only costs $5.00 instead of $1.5 million 2) Coast Guard requirements are drastically reduced (ie: radio, navigation, crew, etc.) This gorgeous 300 feet yacht is six floors high. She has 65 guest rooms with baths. There is the pilothouse deck, the promenade deck, and the main deck above weather that runs the entire length of the hull. There is Deck B, Deck C, and Deck E below. In her elegance of style, design, and manner she once boatsed large bathrooms, disco- dance floor, swimming pool, four spiral staircases, dining lounges, cocktail lounges, a conference room, beauty salon, a theater, photography lab, laundries, helicopter pad, shuffleboard, and skeet shooting (almost all equipment removed or in need of replacement) Beautiful entry doors in the middle of the hull on port and starboard side allow her guests graceful entry into the spacious greeting lounge.

Additional Comments:

She was constructed as a passenger vessel by Blohm & Voss in Hamburg, Germany. The hull is of welded steel construction. The superstructure is aluminum. She has eight watertight bulkheads, dividing the vessel into nine watertight compartments. The vessel is ice reinforced to enable her to sail in all oceans. The ship also has a double bottom for added safety. She is propelled by a diesel electric plant composed of four Mercedes Benz V12 diesel engines of 1200 HP each which are connected by shafting to twin stainless steel blade propellers. The vessel was built to German Lloyd's classification of 100%A. Until 1982, the American Bureau of Shipping classed the vessel. She is approximately 300 feet long, 44 feet wide, and drafts 11 feet. She is a 2,500-ton vessel. The vessel has an ice-reinforced bow and water-line hull plates having a thickness of 12mm. At the time of the Todd Shipyard survey during which gauges were taken, the minimum reading was 0.36". This reading indicates that the hull plates exceed the ABS minimum for brand new vessels by 10%. This vessel was dry docked twice since 1985 with twin three-blade new propellers installed, in accordance with ABS requirements. Special zinc compounds were applied.
